Congratulations! You’ve decided to get married in Italy! Whether you are thinking of a religious ceremony or a civil or symbolic one, or even a simple blessing, Italy is the ideal choice for your special day. With its amazing Renaissance cities, quaint villages, splendid landscapes and spectacular coastline,Italy offers a range of idyllic settings to choose from.
If you are unsure about what kind of ceremony is best, you might find the following information useful:
RomanCatholic religious ceremonies are legally binding in all countries recognised by the Italian government. Weddings in Catholic churches are generally permitted when at least one person in the couple was baptized into the Roman Catholic church. Italy is not lacking in beautiful churches, from tiny chapels tucked away in the countryside to awe-inspiring cathedrals. The possibilities are infinite.
Non-Catholic religious ceremonies are also possible, as are ceremonies in English. Please send us a request to obtain more specific information.
According to Italian law, with very few exceptions, civil ceremonies must take place in the local Casa Comunale, or town hallwith the Mayor or alocal councillor officiating.
There is no shortage of picturesque town halls in Italy. However, it’s a good idea to decide where you want to host the reception first. Once you have decided on the venue, we’ll come up with some suggestions for town halls in the area.Ideally the reception venue should be booked at least six months prior to the wedding.
Foreign citizens and in particular EU nationals are not required to take up residence in the country prior to the wedding date. If you choose a civil ceremony we will help you deal with all the necessary paperwork.
Symbolic ceremonies can be arranged almost anywhere you choose and can be conducted entirely in your mother tongue. We will be delighted to arrange a celebrant but of course you are welcome to bring your own.
GAY AND LESBIAN
Italy does not yet legally recognize same-sex unions. However, we will gladly help arrange your symbolic ceremony.
